100 IMAGES OF BRANDS AND PACKAGING IN THE SIXTIES:
Images from the book 'Own Label' Sainsbury's Design Studios 1962-1977 by FUEL
'The Modernist-inspired work produced by the Sainsbury's Design Studio between 1962 and 1977 that features in the book is extraordinary in its consistency and simplicity of approach: most was printed in three colours with typeface choices left to the individual designers and illustration predominant.'
'modern, distinctive design delivered at a time when Sainsbury's was in the vanguard of a revolution in British shopping and eating.'
These are a collection of images I found of Sainsbury's food packaging from the sixties up until the early seventies. I really like the simple but effective designs. all very simple, with basic, block colours and mostly san serif type faces. I think in comparison to modern day packaging they look a lot more eye catching, however, i'm looking back over time and judging modern day packaging in the present, so its harder for me to make real judgement on todays design as in sixty years it might have a different impact in terms of design.
