WHAT IS GOOD?//WORKSHOP SESSION THREE//OUGD505

BRANDING AND IDENTITY WORKSHOP SESSION THREE:
Today in our workshop session we were told to look at the different materials and analyse them, why they have been designed like that, stock, durability etc.

Things to look at and consider with: Branding and identity

  • target audience
  • communicate an identity
  • colour
  • typeface
  • scale
  • image
Looking at logos and branding we unpicked why certain brands are designed in the way they are:

PENGUIN BOOKS
orange - represents knowledge in some cultures
appeals to children as its bright
penguin - children's books have images in them
style of drawing really child friendly, but not too child friendly that it turns away an adult audience, makes the difference.

LIBERTY
reflects quality and makes you trust the brand

CATH KIDSTON
homely, war time decorations- brighter, country cottage feel, washer woman apron.

NEW BALANCE
current brand, N is dashed to look as though its moving fast,
lack of upper case, more modernist movements - message of the modern
THINGS TO CONSIDER:

  • target audience
  • context  - where
  • how people interact
  • stock
  • special production methods
We had to look at the products/packaging/processes shown and take notes on what target audience it was aimed at, where it would be distributed, how people interact with it, the quality and type of stock and any special production methods.  These are the notes our group made along with images of the work we were analysing:
