WHAT IS DESIGN FOR PRINT?//PRIMARY RESEARCH//OUGD504

INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH FOR PRINT PROCESSING:
I wrote into Team Impression, a design company in Leeds and asked them if they had anything to do with print processes that could further my primary research and possibly look at stocks and designing methods in this area.  They sent me back these two books.

DIGITAL:
CONTENT:
MATERIALS
As the benefits of digital printing become more widely accepted, the demand for a more diverse range of substrates has increased.  there are now expansive ranges of digital-ready substrates available from all the major merchants including; textured, coloured and special effect papers, boards and plastics.  As no make-ready is required when setting up for digital production, experimenting with luxury stocks now couldn't be easier.  With short runs (1+) also being very cost effective on digital, it is now a great incentive to specify premium grade materials that may not be quite as cost effective on larger run litho projects.  The creative possibilities are limitless:
  • Print directly onto paper,
  • board
  • vinyl
  • transparent film
  • wood
  • glass
  • metal or plastic etc. for applications such as banners, posters, duratrans and point-of-sale boards.

COLOUR:
Our Indigo digital presses have an inbuilt IndiChrome colour mixing system which achieves fantastic digital matches for spot or corporate colours.  This colour system is capable of achieving good results on photographic images as well as flat tone graphics.  The versatility of this system offers an exciting range of production possibilities.
WHITE:
The opportunity to print white ink on our Indigo press opens up a number of new creative production possibilities.  Its a great way to explore subtle visual effects that can be achieved by printing multiple layers of semi-opaque white in one register-perfect single pass to create different tones.
FINISH:
Digital print integrated with Team's finishing facilities can be an added value opportunity worth exploiting.  Print one-off case bound books, intricate presentation pieces, complicated folders with personalised inserts:
  • foiled
  • embossed
  • bound
  • collated
  • laminated
  • encapsulated - all done in-house with the same quality and detail driven expertise.
Team also have the in-house facility to mount digital print into virtually any substrate imaginable, to create items such as rigid brochure covers or luxury low-run boxes etc.

PERSONALISE:
Digital print offers an incredible range of opportunities when it comes to personalised printing and data merging.  Personalised printing in its basic form can just mean incorporating the details of your company or name into the message you are creating.  With the increasing success and power of one-to-one marketing now widely accepted, it also brings about creative production possibilities that pre-digital would have been virtually impossible.
